Four-man bobsleigh team finally set to receive Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic bronze medals at Team GB Ball

The University of Bath-based four-man bobsleigh team that have been promoted onto the podium following doping violations at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games will finally receive their bronze medals at next month’s Team GB Ball in London.

The GB 1 crew consisting of John Jackson, Bruce Tasker, Stuart Benson and Joel Fearon finished the competition in fifth place but have retrospectively moved up the rankings following the disqualification of two crews from Russia after thorough re-analysis of samples taken at the Games.

Jackson, pilot of the Team GB 1 crew, said: “We will never have that Olympic moment but receiving our medal at the Team GB Ball will be a special moment and, with less than a month to go, it is starting to feel real.

“It has been an emotional rollercoaster since the McLaren report first came out – anger, disappointment, happiness, frustration and pure relief once we had been told it was official.”

The result means that University-based athletes won two medals at Sochi 2014, with the bobsleigh bronze adding to the women’s skeleton gold for Lizzy Yarnold.
