Sporting scholars impress on international doubles debut as University of Bath badminton players continue fine form

10 December 2019

University of Bath students have continued their fine form at badminton tournaments on both the international and domestic circuits.

Molly Chapman and Will Jones, who are both supported by Santander Sport Scholarships, competed together for the first time in the mixed doubles at the Victor Welsh International in Cardiff.

And it proved to be an impressive debut as the duo, coached by Peter Bush at the University’s Sports Training Village, won three matches before their run was ended in the semi-finals by eventual champions Alexander Dunn and Ciara Torrance.

Team Bath Dual Career student-athlete Katie Scott won three more medals on the Badminton England circuit, winning the women’s singles and doubles titles at the Wiltshire Silver before finishing runner-up in the singles at the Gloucester Silver.

Her partner in the doubles success was Jess Li who also reached the mixed doubles semi-final with brother Ben. George Priestman and Andrew Heinemann were runners-up in the men’s doubles and Kaylan Jensen reached the semi-final of the men’s singles.
