Fab 15 University of Bath-based swimmers named in England Swimming Team ahead of Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games

Fifteen swimmers who train at the University of Bath, including seven students and Olympic and Paralympic medallists, have been named in the first-ever England Swimming Team ahead of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

The larger-than-normal team of 85 swimmers in total brings together everyone who will be considered for selection for Team England at the Commonwealth Games next year.

Among them are four University of Bath sporting scholarsNatural Sciences student Jacob Greenow, who is coached by Mark Skimming and supported by a Santander Scholarship, and British Swimming National Centre Bath trio Tom Dean (Mechanical Engineering, Bill Whiteley Scholar), Leah Crisp (Economics & Mathematics, Santander Scholar) and Luke Turley (Sports Performance, Santander Scholar).

Also selected are fellow students Jono Adam (Sports Performance), Cameron Brooker (Mechanical Engineering) and Brodie Williams (Sports Performance), along with Paralympic Champion Steph Millward and Olympic medallists James Guy and Siobhan-Marie O’Connor.

Completing the 15 swimmers – who all train in the Olympic-sized London 2012 Legacy Pool at the Team Bath Sports Training Village – are Freya Anderson, Georgia Coates, Emily Large, Jacob Peters and Ciara Schlosen of the National Centre Bath squad, coached by David McNulty and Jol Finck.

University of Bath alumni Jay Lelliot and Anna Hopkin, who were both coached by Skimming, are also in the England Swimming Team working towards a home Commonwealth Games in July and August 2022.

Grant Robins, Swim England head of talent (swimming) and team leader for the swimming team at the Commonwealth Games, said: “We’d like to offer our congratulations to everyone who has been named in the first England Swimming Team – we hope it will lead to a real team unity that will deliver the best games ever.”

All of the swimmers selected will be involved in England Swimming Team camps and competitions in preparation for the Games, with the squad being reduced closer to the competition date in line with qualification standards.
