Team Bath Buccaneers hockey players impress for both Wales and England during development series

03 August 2021

Players from the Team Bath Buccaneers Hockey Club men’s first team played a big part for both sides when the Wales and England Development sides met in two matches at Millfield School in Somerset.

University of Bath Business student Nat O’Dwyer produced an outstanding display at centre-back for Wales (pictured) in the opening game and was voted as man of the match as a late winner secured a hard-fought victory over England U18s.

The following day saw his Buccs club-mates Hugh Page and Rob Wilson excel in attack as England made amends for that defeat with a stunning 6-1 victory.

Page bagged a brace of clinical and powerful penalty corner drag flicks to give England the lead, then centre-forward Rob Wilson scored two outfield goals – the first a crafty reverse flick over the diving keeper to the near post and the second a delicate tap-in with the potent striker positioned in front of goal.

Meanwhile, former Team Bath Buccs player Liam Sanford helped Team GB’s men reach the quarter-finals of the Tokyo 2020 hockey tournament on his Olympics debut. Their medal hopes were ended by a 3-1 defeat to India.
