Alicia Barnett ready for Wimbledon as Team Bath Tennis doubles ace prepares to make her Grand Slam debut at SW19

27 June 2022

Team Bath Tennis player Alicia Barnett will make her Grand Slam debut when she competes at Wimbledon this week with women’s doubles partner Olivia Nicholls.

Barnett, coached by Ian MacDonald, and Nicholls have been drawn to face Kaia Kanepi and Renata Voracova in a first-round tie scheduled for Wednesday after being handed a wildcard into the Championships.

That was reward for their excellent form on the international circuit this season, which has included a biggest success of their careers to date – winning the W60 Bellinzona title on clay in Switzerland – and reaching the Lyon Open final in France on their WTA Tour debut. That saw Barnett achieve a career-high world doubles ranking of 100 earlier this month.

Liam Broady, who is coached by Team Bath Tennis coach Dave Sammel, has also been given a wildcard into the men’s singles and doubles as he prepares to compete at Wimbledon for a seventh time.

He will face Slovakia’s Lukas Klein in the first round of the singles on Tuesday before partnering Jay Clarke against number 16 seeds Rafael Matos and David Vega Hernandez in the doubles on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Team Bath Tennis players Ben Jones and Giles Hussey teamed up to win the men’s doubles title at the ITF M15 Raanana tournament in Israel. The number one seeds didn’t drop a set all week and clinched the silverware with a 6-4 6-2 win over Robin Catry and Timothy Gray.
