Great Britain won a first men’s bobsleigh overall World Cup medal since 1995 and Matt Weston stormed to his fourth men’s skeleton gold of the season as University of Bath-based sliders continued to rewrite the history books.

Brad Hall, Arran Gulliver, Taylor Lawrence and Greg Cackett (pictured with family, supporters and coaches) won back-to-back four-man bobsleigh silver medals in Igls, Austria over the weekend to secure second spot in the overall rankings for the 2022-23 IBSF World Cup season.

It means they finished the campaign with three gold medals and four silvers, with fourth place in Park City the only time they were off the podium. They also won the country’s first four-man World Championship medal in 84 years with silver in St Moritz seven days earlier.

Pilot Hall remains on course for more overall World Cup medals going into the season-concluding two-man double header in Sigulda as he sits second in the combined rankings and third in the two-man standings.

Also currently second in the World Cup rankings is Weston, who built on his glorious World Championships success by breaking the Igls course record twice on his way to victory in the men’s skeleton race.

It was a third World Cup win in a row for the in-form Brit and puts him hot on the heels of Germany’s Olympic Champion Christopher Grotheer in the race for the Crystal Globe. Team-mate Marcus Wyatt is just a single point from overall bronze after placing ninth on Friday. Team-mate Craig Thompson, who was fourth at the World Championships, finished 12th.

Laura Deas made the wider podium in the women’s race, moving up from 13th after the first run to place sixth, while Brogan Crowley was 12th.
