University of Bath alumna Prisca Awiti-Alcaraz says she is hungry for more success after winning the first Grand Slam medal of her judo career by claiming a superb silver in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The Tokyo Olympian, who represents Mexico, was in fantastic form in the -63kg weight division as she overcame home favourite Marjona Nurulloeva, Brazil’s Gabriella Moraes and Hannah Martin of the United States on her way to the semi-finals.

Awiti-Alcaraz, who studied Sports Performance and still trains at Team Bath when in the UK, ensured she would go home with a medal as she defeated Slovenia’s Andreja Leski in just over 90 seconds.

Reigning World Champion Megumi Horikawa of Japan proved too strong in the final but Awiti-Alcaraz was delighted to come away with the best result of her career to date.
