First international title for Chloe Robyns-Landricombe as Team Bath Judo duo secure podium places at Gaia European Cup in Portugal
Team Bath Judo’s Chloe Robyns-Landricombe and Sidney Tancock won gold and bronze respectively with brilliant performances at the Gaia Senior European Cup in Portugal.
University of Bath graduate Robyns-Landricombe overcame Germany’s Soraya Guenther and Paula Lanza Chacoris of Spain on her way to the -52kg final.
She saved her best performance until last, needing just 12 seconds to defeat Kazakhstan’s Tolganay Abeuova – ranked 59 in the world – by Ippon and claim the first title of her international career.
Training partner Tancock was also in fine form in the -48kg weight division, bouncing back from a quarter-final defeat to Angola’s Eldimira Segunda with repechage victories over Portuguese duo Constanca Alves and Carolina Rodrigues.
That set up an all-British showdown for the bronze medal, with Tancock – who graduated from the University of Bath in International Development with Economics this summer – coming out on top by Ippon against Ashleigh Barnikel.
