Golden finish to 2023 for World Champion Matt Weston as Bath-based British Skeleton athletes impress again on IBSF World Cup stage

World Champion Matt Weston recorded his first win of the 2023-24 IBSF Skeleton World Cup season on another strong day for University of Bath-based sliders in Innsbruck, Austria.
Fellow Brit Tabby Stoecker also won her second medal in as many weeks as she followed up her gold from last Friday by claiming a brilliant bronze in the women’s race on only her third World Cup appearance.
Weston, who trains with the British Bobsleigh & Skeleton Association at the Team Bath Sports Training Village, was quickest in both runs as he won gold on the Innsbruck track for a third time.
Korea’s Seunggi Jung was 0.15secs behind Weston, while Felix Keisinger of Germany pipped Craig Thompson to bronze by just five-hundredths of a second. Marcus Wyatt was ninth and Jacob Salisbury 14th as the Brits produced an impressive finish to an excellent year of international competition.

The women’s race saw Stoecker again beat a whole host of more experienced athletes including the reigning Olympic Champion, current World Champion and last season’s Overall World Cup winner, as she finished just three hundredths of a second shy of silver-medallist Valentina Margaglio of Italy.
