Engineering student-athlete Sofia Sjoborg impresses on Olympic debut as she helps Sweden secure top-six finish in team eventing

University of Bath student Sofia Sjoborg helped Sweden finish a superb sixth behind gold-medallists Team GB in the Paris 2024 Eventing Team event at the Château de Versailles.
Sjoborg, who studies Integrated Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and is supported by the Team Bath Breakthrough programme, impressed on her Olympic debut and began the three days of competition by scoring 33.3 in the dressage on her horse Bryjamolga VH Marienshof, known as Belle.
She was then the first rider to make the time in the cross-country phase, scoring 15 points, and wrapped up an excellent display with a score of 4.8 in the showjumping, giving Sjoborg an overall total of 53.10 for 33rd place individually.
That meant she and team-mates Louise Romeike and Frida Andersen scored 130.5 cumulatively for a top-six finish overall.
Sjoborg is one of five current Bath students competing at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, with Chemical Engineering student Henrique Mascarenhas the next in action at 10.21am BST on Tuesday 30th July when he swims for Angola in the men’s 100m freestyle heats. Click here to see the full schedule.
