Beijing brings two more medals for Bath-based British Skeleton athletes as excellent start to IBSF World Cup season continues

24 November 2024

Matt Weston went within one-hundredth of a second of winning gold and in-form Freya Tarbit bagged bronze as University of Bath-based British Skeleton athletes continued their excellent start to the 2024-25 IBSF World Cup season in Beijing.

Weston, having won back-to-back bronze medals on the opening weekend in PyeongChang, led after the first run on the 2022 Winter Olympic Games track but was narrowly overhauled on the second run by Germany’s Christopher Grotheer, who claimed his third successive gold of the fledgling season.

The women’s race saw Tarbit follow up her maiden gold-medal success in PyeongChang by placing third, just four-hundredths of a second off silver, to end the Asian leg of the series at the top of the world rankings.

Marcus Wyatt and Tabby Stoecker made the wider podium with fourth-place finishes in the men’s and women’s races respectively.
