History is made as Matt Weston and European silver-medallist Marcus Wyatt achieve British Skeleton 1-2 in Overall World Cup rankings

Matt Weston has been crowned as Overall World Cup Champion for a second successive year, while Marcus Wyatt and Amelia Coltman both won European Championships silver as University of Bath-based skeleton athletes continued a stellar pre-Olympic season.
An eighth-placed finish in Lillehammer on Friday – the only time he has missed out on a medal during the 2024-25 season – was enough to secure top spot in the overall IBSF World Cup men’s rankings for Weston, who successfully defended the title he won last year.
Team-mate Wyatt completed a first-ever British Skeleton one-two in the overall rankings after winning a bronze medal at the final World Cup race of the season. The race doubled as the European Championship and, with gold going to China’s Qinwei Lin, it meant Wyatt took continental silver, the 2024 champion missing out on back-to-back European men’s titles by just one-hundredth of a second.

Weston said: “To come away with two Crystal Globes in a row and do something no British man has ever done is pretty special. I don’t think what I’ve achieved this season and over the past few years has sunk in yet and it probably won’t until I retire.”
The medal success continued in the women’s race later that day as Coltman won World Cup bronze and European Championships silver for Britain following two impressively consistent runs. Tabby Stoecker and Freya Tarbit were 10th and 14th respectively.
The University of Bath is home to the UK’s only outdoor push-start training track and British Bobsleigh and Skeleton Association athletes also do their strength and conditioning work at the Team Bath Sports Training Village. Click here to find out more.
