Championship medals, European qualification and standout debuts add up to best BUCS Regatta yet for University of Bath rowers

The University of Bath Rowing Club produced their strongest BUCS Regatta results ever when they won 11 medals – four of them gold – during a busy Bank Holiday Weekend at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham.
All of the medals were won by students who train with the British Rowing South West GB Performance Development Academy (PDA) based at the University, with five qualification spots for September’s EUSA European Universities Championships in Poland also being secured.
In the Championship events, there was a hard-earned lightweight men’s single scull silver for Economics student Jack Norton, who was narrowly pipped to gold in the last 100m, and bronze in both the men’s and women’s quadruple sculls, as well as for the women’s double sculls.
Bill Whiteley Sporting Scholar Ella Fullman, who was in the latter crew, narrowly missed out on another medal in the single but her fourth place was EUSA eligible.
Gold in the Intermediate events went to Sports Performance student Ben Furley, who was clinical from the front as he stormed to men’s single victory, and the men’s pair of Luka Halozan Bayley and Oscar Mitchell, who showed grit and composure to take the title. Superb rows in both the men’s and women’s doubles were rewarded with bronze medals.
The Beginner events saw eye-catching victories in the men’s quad and men’s doubles, while Aerospace Engineering student Tolu Adelaja showed tremendous promise as she moved up from fifth to third in the closing stages of her women’s single final.
With strong performances throughout the squad, Crew Bath placed eighth overall in the Victor Ludorum rankings.
