Duo get debuts under their belts ahead of big weekend of bobsleigh competition
Adele Nicoll and Leon Greenwood both made their Olympic debuts as the bobsleigh competition got under way in Cortina.
Nicoll, who went to Beijing as a travelling reserve in 2022 but did not compete, made history as the first British woman to contest the monobob.
She was 11th after the first three runs but while a disappointing final heat saw her slip to 18th, Nicoll is ready to push on with Ashleigh Nelson in the two-woman competition that gets under way on Friday evening.
Greenwood made his bow four days earlier than anticipated after replacing fellow brakeman Taylor Lawrence in the two-man bobsleigh for Heats 3 and 4 on Tuesday.
The British team placed 12th overall, having been eighth after the first two runs on Monday, but pilot Brad Hall said: “I’m quite happy with how things ended up, not in the two-man result but in the preparation of the four-man.
“Taylor was a bit tight, so we decided not to risk putting him in. We knew we weren’t in it for the medals after the first day and we wanted to keep him safe so he was ready to perform.”
Hall, Lawrence, Greenwood and Greg Cackett begin their four-man campaign on Saturday, with the medals being decided on Sunday morning.
