Clean sweep of gold medals for Bath-based Dimitri Coutya at second Para Fencing World Cup of 2026 in Budapest

23 March 2026

Dimitri Coutya won gold in all three of his individual events during a dominant week for the University of Bath-based Paralympic Champion at the Para Fencing World Cup in Budapest, Hungary.

He conceded just eight hits in three bouts on the way to the Category B foil final where, for the second World Cup running, he overcame Italy’s Michele Massa to win gold.

Coutya then improved on the epee bronze he won a month ago in Pisa by claiming a second gold medal in as many days, the British Fencing ace beating Peter Yohan of France 15-7 in the final.

The third gold followed on Saturday as Coutya secured the sabre title with a 15-9 victory over Italy’s Gianmarco Paolucci.

Team-mate Piers Gilliver also topped the podium in the Category A epee after coming through a tricky opening contest against Poland’s Michal Nalewajek, which he edged 15-12. He went on to dominate the competition and won gold with a 15-9 victory over China’s Liqiang Chen.

Coutya and Gilliver both train at the Team Bath Sports Training Village, home to the Wheelchair Fencing National Training Centre. The third Para Fencing World Cup of the year will take place in Florida from 27th to 30th May.
