Continental clean sweep for Ranjuo Tomblin as Bath sporting scholars shine at Paris 2026 European Artistic Swimming Champs
Artistic swimmer Ranjuo Tomblin is a quadruple continental champion after an exceptional Paris 2026 European Aquatics Championships for the University of Bath sporting scholar.
Kate Shortman, who graduated from the University this summer, also won a bronze medal on her return to the Olympic Aquatics Centre in Saint-Denis where she made Olympic history for Team GB at Paris 2024.
Sports Performance student Tomblin, supported in his dual careers by a Trendell Sporting Scholarship, went into the Europeans with confidence high after winning 17 medals – 12 of them gold – on the 2026 Artistic Swimming World Cup circuit.
He continued that outstanding form by striking gold in both of his Men’s Solo events, scoring 249.3951 to defend his Technical title and 258.9188 in the Free final.
Tomblin also teamed up with Izzy Thorpe to claim Great Britain’s first-ever Mixed Duet Free European title, their score of 258.2383 denying Spain a fourth successive title by 0.2650 points.
The duo then pipped Italy to Mixed Duet Technical gold, their score of 229.6783 ensuring a winning send-off for the partnership before they focus on events on the LA 2028 Olympic Games programme.
“I am really grateful to have this opportunity and to swim with Izzy, she’s the best duet partner ever,” Tomblin told European Aquatics.
“It’s been an amazing experience swimming with Izzy. When I first partnered with her I just didn’t want to disappoint her but now we have this amazing partnership and it has just been the best time.”
Competing for only the third time since winning Olympic silver two years ago, Shortman and Thorpe secured a brilliant bronze in the Duet Technical with a score of 297.9108.
Shortman, a Bill Whiteley Sporting Scholar, has been focussing on her studies for the past two years – including a placement year in Paris – and graduated in International Management and Modern Languages (French) this summer.
Robyn Swatman, who also graduated recently in Sports Performance, partnered Eve Young in the Duet Free event, placing 10th (245.0216).
