Blue and Gold stars help England Netball inflict rare defeat on New Zealand on home soil

30 August 2017

Team Bath Netball’s Eboni Beckford-Chambers and Kadeen Corbin helped England record an outstanding 49-45 victory over New Zealand in Auckland on Wednesday.

The victory, in the second match of the Quad Series, was only the fifth ever recorded by the Roses against the Silver Ferns in 88 matches and was secured by three unanswered goals in the closing stages from Corbin.

She showed the attacking qualities she will be bringing back to the Blue and Gold this season by converting 23 of her 30 shots and forging an excellent partnership with Helen Housby.

Team Bath captain Beckford-Chambers came on at goal-defence midway through the third quarter with England trailing 32-30 and helped the tourists close the gap still further to 37-36 going into the final 15 minutes.

The Silver Ferns flew out of the traps and quickly extended their lead to 40-37 but England managed to regain the momentum and edged ahead before Corbin’s late three-goal salvo capped a magnificent team performance.

It was the perfect response to Saturday’s narrow 54-50 defeat to World Champions Australia during the Quad Series opener in Brisbane, a match that both Corbin and Beckford-Chambers started.

The Quad Series concludes on Sunday when England take on South Africa in Invercargill.

Both Corbin and Beckford-Chambers have been named in the Team Bath squad for the first-ever British Fast5 All-Stars Championships, taking place at The O2 Arena on Saturday, September 23. Click here for more information and to purchase tickets.
