Family Fun Day is hailed as best yet as thousands enjoy free sport and activities at University STV
More than 2,000 people of all ages took the chance to enjoy a wide range of sports and activities as the “best Team Bath Family Fun Day yet” took place on Saturday.
Free have-a-go sessions in badminton, beach volleyball, boccia, fencing, laser shooting, tennis, trampolining and more proved hugely popular, as did displays from Team Bath Rhythmic Gymnastics Club in the sports hall and Team Bath Synchro Club in the London 2012 Legacy Swimming Pool.
Team Bath Netball Superleague players Rachel Shaw and Abi Robson oversaw a shooting challenge and England U21 player Tim Nurse, a University of Bath student, was involved in a busy day on the hockey pitches.
Visitors to the University of Bath Sports Training Village also flocked to the climbing wall, zip wire and fun inflatables, including life-sized table football, while fitness challenges like sprint timing, watt bikes and a batak wall proved to be a big draw too.
An inspirational day was capped by the Olympic Day Run, which this year was officially started by PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games skeleton bronze-medallist and University of Bath PhD student Dom Parsons.
Stephen Baddeley, Director of Sport at the University of Bath, said: “Although the weather could have been kinder, the event was a huge success and, in my mind, the best yet of all our Family Fun Days. The variety of activities surpassed previous years and I had several families thank me for what they considered to have been a great event for them and their children.”
The Family Fun Day is a key part of not only the University’s community activities but also Team Bath’s ongoing commitment to inspiring people to get active and create impact through sport.
The £30million Sports Training Village – home to Olympic, Paralympic, World and Commonwealth champions across a range of sports – is open to the public all year round, with the world-class facilities attracting around 1.6million visits annually.
