Medals keep coming at Modern Pentathlon Junior Euro Champs as student Olivia Green and Kerenza Bryson secure silver

05 June 2019

Team Bath Dual Career athlete Olivia Green teamed up with Kerenza Bryson to continue Pentathlon GB’s fantastic start to the 2019 Junior European Championships by claiming a fine silver in the women’s relay.

There was little to choose between the leading nations throughout the day in Poland but a strong finish saw the Brits take the second step on the podium, following on from fellow University of Bath students Georgia Hannam and Oliver Murray’s bronze in the mixed relay on Monday.

It was a third medal of 2019 for Sport & Exercise Science student Green and a second for Bryson as they maintained a brilliant medal-filled season to date for Pentathlon GB athletes at both Junior and Senior level.

The women’s relay began in the pool where the Pentathlon GB duo clocked a time of 2:11.65 to get their day off to a solid start. A level fence of 18 victories and 18 defeats followed, which meant that Bryson and Green sat sixth in the overall standings.

A wonderful string of five victories in the fencing bonus round moved them up a place and they gained further ground in the riding discipline, their score of 279 points lifting them to third going into the laser run.

Just 23 seconds separated the top eight teams at the start and the podium places changed hands throughout the 3,200m course but the British duo kept their composure as some sharp shooting from Bryson and strong running from Green saw them cross the line in second behind the Czech Republic.

Applications are now being taken for the 2019-20 Team Bath Dual Career programme from both current and prospective University of Bath students – click here to find out more.
