Team Bath Buccaneers trio representing England Hockey at European U21 Championships in Spain

13 July 2019

University of Bath sporting scholar Tim Nurse is one of three Team Bath Buccaneers Hockey Club players selected to represent England Hockey at the European U21 Championships taking place in Valencia, Spain, from July 13-21.

MJ Church Ambassador Nurse, who studies Sports Performance and is supported by a King Sporting Scholarship, and Stuart Rushmere are both in an 18-strong men’s squad.

They helped Great Britain U21s to victory at the Sultan of Johor Cup in Malaysia in October and will be looking to secure, at a minimum, the top-five place that will guarantee qualification for the 2021 FIH Junior World Cup.

Sophie Hamilton is in an exciting women’s squad looking to build on the bronze medal won by England at the 2017 Championships. She is part of the Buccaneers 1st team that won the West Club Hockey League Premier Division 1 title this season to regain their place in the Investec West Conference for 2019-20 and also helped Buccs’ U18 Girls win the national title.

England’s women start their Pool B campaign against Belgium on Monday (July 15) before facing Germany on Tuesday (16) and Belarus on Thursday (18).

The men are in Pool A and will face Poland on Monday, Belgium on Tuesday and hosts Spain on Thursday.
