Team Bath Tennis player Giles Hussey claimed the first professional title of his career with a series of impressive performances at the ITF World Tennis Tour event in Cancun, Mexico.

After battling his way to a 7-5 3-6 7-6(3) victory over number five side Jorge Brian Panta of Peru in the first round, Hussey recorded straight-sets wins against Colombia’s Mateo Gomez (6-3 6-3) and Alejandro Mendoza of Bolivia (6-3 6-1) to reach the last four.

He continued his fine form with a 6-4 6-3 success against number three seed Sho Shimabakuro of Japan before securing the trophy and $2,160 top prize by beating Christian Langmo of the United States 6-3 5-7 6-4 in the final.

Hussey, who is coached by Ian MacDonald, moved his training base to Team Bath in September after completing his studies in the United States. Originally from Swindon, he won Round 7 of the UK Pro-League when it was staged at the Team Bath Sports Training Village last month.
