Another team silver for Matt Weston and Tabby Stoecker as British Skeleton athletes end 2025 World Championships with three medals

09 March 2025

Matt Weston went mighty close to winning a second IBSF Skeleton World Championship gold in 24 hours when he and Tabby Stoecker won silver for Great Britain in the team event.

The GB1 team clocked a combined time of 1:54.53 to finish just one-tenth of a second behind Ro Mystique and Austin Florian of Team USA who took gold on home ice in Lake Placid.

It was the second year running that Stoecker and newly-crowned men’s champion Weston, who both train at the University of Bath, had won World team silver.

Fellow Brits Marcus Wyatt and Amelia Coltman initially appeared to have finished fourth but were later disqualified for a weight infringement.

The result means that British Skeleton athletes won three medals at the World Championships, including Wyatt’s individual silver, and finished an outstanding pre-Olympic season with 22 medals in total.

Meanwhile, the opening weekend of the bobsleigh competitions saw Brad Hall and Taylor Lawrence place sixth in the two-man and Adele Nicoll finish 16th in the women’s monobob.

Hall and Lawrence return to the ice on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th March to contest the four-man with Arran Gulliver and Greg Cackett, while Nicoll and Ashleigh Nelson will race in the women’s competition.

The University of Bath is home to the UK’s only outdoor push-start training track and British Bobsleigh and Skeleton Association athletes also do their strength and conditioning work at the Team Bath Sports Training Village. Click here to find out more.
