University of Bath hockey and rugby teams bring home silverware from BUCS Big Wednesday 2026
There were victories on the hockey and rugby pitches when five University of Bath student sports teams contested national finals at BUCS Big Wednesday 2026.
Both of Bath’s hockey 1st teams reached the National Vase Final, with the women sealing the title thanks to 3-2 shootout victory over Exeter 1sts after tying 1-1 in normal time. They had beaten Exeter 2nds in the same way in the semi-finals.

The men put up a good performance against Exeter 2nds in their final but had to settle for the silver medals after a 4-2 defeat.
On the rugby pitch, Bath men’s 3rd XV – who had won the Premier South 2 title the previous week – sealed a league and cup double by beating Leeds Beckett 2nds 38-31 in the National Trophy Final.

The Netball National Trophy decider proved to be an exciting contest as Bath 2nds rallied from 17-8 down after the first quarter to draw level at half-time before being edged out 54-51 by Worcester 1sts.
There was another narrow defeat on the tennis courts for Bath 2nds in the Women’s National Trophy Final against Edinburgh 1sts. It was all square after the four singles matches, Holly Huby and Charlotte Jones recording important wins for Bath, but Edinburgh came out on top in both doubles rubbers.
