Two more Bath sporting scholars heading to Glasgow 2026 as Justin Davies and Jayda Pechova earn Commonwealth Games call
Middle-distance athlete Justin Davies and netballer Jayda Pechova are the latest University of Bath sporting scholars to be officially selected to compete at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Biomedical Sciences student Davies, who is supported by an Alumni Fund Scholarship and coached by Martin Rush at the Team Bath Sports Training Village, will represent Team Wales in the 800m, an event in which he holds the national record both indoors and outdoors.
Trendell Sporting Scholar Pechova, who studies Sports Performance, will make her first appearance at a senior major championships after being selected in the Team England netball squad.
She is joined by former Team Bath Netball team-mate Imogen Allison, a Sport and Exercise Science graduate, and the squad is led by Head Coach Anna Stembridge, who is a University of Bath Hall of Fame inductee for her significant contribution to Team Bath Netball as a player and coach.
Natural Sciences graduate Tash Pavelin, Pechova’s defensive partner at Nottingham Forest, is one of four reserves. She and Allison were also supported by sport scholarships during their time as University of Bath student-athletes.
Pechova’s selection comes at the end of a standout season for Forest in which she was named as the Netball Super League Players’ Player, Junior Player and Fans’ Player of the Year.
Davies and Pechova emulate three sporting scholars who will compete in the swimming pool in Glasgow – Cam Brooker (Ivor Powell Scholar) and Jack Skerry (US Foundation Scholar) for Team England, and Matthew Ward (Bill Whiteley Scholar) for Team Scotland. Their Aquatics GB Bath Performance Centre team-mate Jacob Peters has also been selected to represent England at a third Commonwealth Games.
The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games are taking place from 23rd July to 2nd August. Click here to find out more.
