Sporting scholars among Bath-based swimming trio selected by Team England for Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games
Sporting scholars Cameron Brooker and Jack Skerry and fellow swimmer Jacob Peters have today become the first University of Bath-based athletes to be officially selected for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The trio, who all train in the University’s 50m pool with the Aquatics GB Bath Performance Centre, have been named in a 28-strong Team England swimming squad for the Games, taking place in Scotland from 23rd July to 2nd August.
It will be a first Commonwealth Games for backstroke duo Brooker and Skerry, who study Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science respectively. They are supported in their dual academic and sporting careers by sporting scholarships, Ivor Powell for Brooker and US Foundation for Skerry.
Butterfly specialist Peters is heading to his second Games having been part of the Team England men’s 4x100m medley relay squad that won gold at Birmingham 2022.
The trio are coached by David McNulty and Calum Jarvis, the latter having won 200m freestyle bronze for Wales when Glasgow last hosted the Commonwealth Games in 2014. Jarvis will be part of the Team England coaching staff this time round.
Also in the Team England swimming squad is former Bath sporting scholar Tom Dean, who became his nation’s most decorated athlete at a single Commonwealth Games when he won seven medals at Birmingham 2022.
Peters and Skerry have also been selected to represent Aquatics GB at this summer’s European Championships in Paris.
