Rowing trio with University of Bath links receive New Year’s Honours following gold-medal glory at London 2012

Athletes with strong University of Bath links had their London 2012 successes recognised in the New Year’s Honours List, which was announced this morning (Saturday). Rowers Heather Stanning, Helen Glover and Dave Smith were made MBEs in the list. Stanning, a University of Bath Sports Technology graduate, and Glover, teamed up to win Britain’s first gold medal of the London 2012 Olympics and became the first ever GB women’s crew to win Olympic rowing gold....

University of Bath student Tom Dunn made his senior debut for Bath Rugby in the Amlin Challenge cup against Italian side Calvisano. The second year Sports Performance student came on as a replacement for hooker Brett Sharman and helped his side to an impressive 67-11 victory, their biggest European home win.

Tributes paid to Ivor Powell MBE

University of Bath staff and alumni joined friends and family in celebrating the life of Ivor Powell MBE at  a tribute event  at the Sports Training Village this afternoon (Tuesday). Ivor, whose illustrious footballing career saw him play for Wales, Queens Park Rangers, Blackpool and Aston Villa, passed away at the age of 96 after a short illness on 5 November. Ivor Powell MBE, a former Welsh international footballer and long-serving coach at the University of Bath, passed away last night at the age of 96 after a short illness.
