Top-ten finishes for Laura Deas and Marcus Wyatt as British Skeleton athletes start World Cup campaign at Lake Placid

08 December 2019

Marcus Wyatt and Laura Deas both recorded top-ten finishes as the University of Bath-based British Skeleton squad began the 2019-20 IBSF World Cup season in Lake Placid, New York this weekend.

Olympic bronze-medallist Deas finished tenth overall after two runs in the women’s competition on Saturday, with Sports Performance graduate Maddy Smith 19th and Kim Murray 22nd.

The following day saw Wyatt also place tenth in the men’s competition, three places ahead of Dom Parsons who was racing internationally for the first time since winning bronze at the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games.

Craig Thompson was 22nd overall after just missing the cut for the second run but still clocked the fastest start time, outperforming Olympic Champion Sungbin Yun and nine-time World Champion Martins Dukurs at the top of the track.

All six British sliders will compete again on the same track later this week after Lake Placid agreed to host successive races following the cancellation of the original opening event in Park City.

The men’s and women’s races both take place on Friday (December 13), with Deas, Murray and Smith starting at 3pm GMT and Parsons, Thompson and Wyatt following suit four hours later.
