Swim star Stephanie Millward competing at European Championships in Madeira with 100 days to Tokyo Paralympic Games

16 May 2021

Today marks both 100 days to go to the rescheduled Paralympic Games and the start of the World Para Swimming European Open Championships, a key competition in the build-up to Tokyo 2020 for University of Bath-based Stephanie Millward.

The Rio 2016 double gold-medallist is among an eight-strong British Swimming team competing at the Penteada Swimming Complex in Funchal, Madeira between today and Saturday (22nd).

She will be looking to put in some strong swims against potential Tokyo opponents while also undergoing the classification process across the meet.

Millward, who trains with Team Bath AS in the London 2012 Legacy Pool at the Sports Training Village, has won 14 European Championships medals – ten of them gold – during her stellar career, including three when Funchal last hosted the event in 2016.

The ten-time Paralympic medallist, who is aiming to compete at her fourth Games this summer, is an inductee into the University of Bath Hall of Fame for Sport.

A live stream of the European Championships will be running on World Para Swimming’s Facebook channel and website throughout the meet.
