University of Bath student Justin Davies helped GB win mixed relay silver when he represented his country at the FISU World University Cross-Country Championships in Aveiro, Portugal on Saturday.

Davies, who studies Biomedical Sciences and is supported by the Team Bath Dual Career programme, ran the fourth and final 2km leg of a race ran in heavy rain and maintained GB’s hold on second spot to bring the team home in 35:23, 20 seconds behind winners France but eight second clear of third-placed Spain.

Alexandra Millard, Edward Potter and Sabrina Sinha were also in the British team alongside Davies, who is coached by Martin Rush and trains with the University’s student-athletics squad led by Colin Bovell.

“The atmosphere at the event was incredible, with 20 different countries from around the world present,” said Davies. “Although the rain turned torrential by the time we raced, the run was still really enjoyable.”

The British team finished as overall champions after claiming two gold and a silver

There was further cause for celebration as wins in both the men’s and women’s 10k races, plus the mixed relay silver, meant that Britain also won the overall competition.

It continued a memorable season for Davies, who also won 1,500m silver while wearing the Blue & Gold of Team Bath at last month’s BUCS Nationals in Sheffield.
