Student Jono Adam among eight University of Bath-based swimmers selected by GB for European Aquatics Championships in Rome

19 July 2022

University of Bath student Jono Adam will make his senior British Swimming debut in Rome during August after being named in a 31-strong squad for the season-ending European Aquatics Championships.

He is joined in the squad by British Swimming Performance Centre Bath team-mates Freya Anderson, Kieran Bird, Tom Dean, James Guy, Ed Mildred, Jacob Peters and Brodie Williams – all of whom will head directly to Italy after competing at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Adam (pictured top with coach David McNulty), who studies Sports Performance, is one of eight debutants in an exciting squad for the Europeans – taking place from 11-21 August – that comprises current and future stars of British Swimming.

Chris Spice, British Swimming Performance Director, said: “It is fantastic that we can select a team of such varied experience and talent for the Europeans. This meet will provide chances for some high-quality competition but, most importantly, we are also keen to see how our younger athletes perform in the senior environment as we look to identify swimmers for Paris 2024 and beyond.

“We will obviously be missing a few established stars, so this will also be a fantastic opportunity for us to further test the depth of our relay squads with future competitions in mind.”

Also in the squad are Sport & Exercise Science alumna Anna Hopkin, who won Olympic gold at Tokyo 2020, and newly-crowned World Champion Ben Proud, who represents the University of Bath Swimming Club having trained with them from January 2021 until earlier this summer.
