Team Bath Senior Physio Katy Williams tackling medical team role as Women’s Rugby World Cup heads to Ashton Gate
Team Bath Senior Multi-Sports Physiotherapist Katy Williams will be part of the field-of-play medical team when the Women’s Rugby World Cup moves into its knockout phase over the next two weekends.
She will be working at Ashton Gate when the Bristol stadium stages Sunday’s quarter-final between host nation England and Scotland, as well as both semi-finals on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th September.
“This is a great opportunity and I’m really excited to be involved in a World Cup,” said Katy. “A key focus of this tournament is promoting and celebrating women in sport, from the athletes on the pitch to those behind the scenes, and I’m proud to be part of the medical support team for these huge matches at Ashton Gate.”
Katy – working for a local operating company on behalf of World Rugby – will provide physio services for the match officials during the quarter-final, then assist the competing nations’ support staff during the semi-finals as part of the field-of-play emergency medical team.
Katy, who has been with Team Bath since 2010, has extensive rugby experience having previously worked with Hampshire RFU, London Irish, England U20 Counties and England Students. She was the Lead Physiotherapist for the University of Bath men’s BUCS Super Rugby High Performance Programme, which runs in partnership with Bath Rugby, for seven-and-a-half seasons and now works in an assistant capacity on the programme.
She is also no stranger to major sporting events having previously worked as a physio at the London 2012 Olympic Games, Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and World University Games.
As well as providing a performance-focused multi-sports physiotherapy service for athletes and National Governing Bodies at Team Bath, Katy is Higher Education Fellow on the MSc in Sports Physiotherapy, Sport and Exercise Medicine MSc and the Football Medicine in association with FIFA MSc courses at the University.
