Matt Weston sets new track and start records at legendary St Moritz as he storms to fourth Skeleton World Cup gold of Olympic season
Matt Weston extended his dominance of the 2025-26 IBSF Skeleton World Cup season into Olympic year by winning the rescheduled men’s race in St Moritz on Wednesday.
The reigning World Champion, who trains with the British Bobsleigh and Skeleton Association (BBSA) at the University of Bath, set new start and track records during a blistering second run as he built on a rapid first outing to finish more than a second clear of the field in a combined time of 2:15.67.
It was Weston’s fourth gold medal from five races this season and returned him to the top of the podium after taking silver behind team-mate Marcus Wyatt in the last race of 2025.
Wyatt had to settle for seventh place on this occasion, moving up from 11th at the halfway stage thanks to an excellent second run, and Jacob Salisbury was joint 21st.
Today’s race – a replacement for last weekend’s postponed event in Winterberg – was the first of two for the men in St Moritz this week. The legendary venue is hosting a full bobsleigh and skeleton World Cup weekend from 9th to 11th January, which is doubling as the 2026 European Championships.
The British Bobsleigh and Skeleton Association (BBSA) is based at the University of Bath, a UK Sport-accredited Elite Training Centre, with the athletes doing their home training on the UK’s only outdoor push-start track, as well as in the gym and on the indoor sprint track at the Sports Training Village.
