15 March 2026

There were a host of top-three finishes, including victory for Joshua Gammon, as University of Bath-based swimmers stepped up their Aquatics GB Championships preparations by racing at the 2026 Edinburgh International Swim Meet.

Sports Performance alumnus Gammon touched the wall first in the 50m butterfly (23.49) and was fourth over 100m (53.26) and 200m (1:59.82). Aquatics GB Bath Performance Centre training partner Jacob Peter was third in the 50m butterfly (23.63) and fifth in the 100m (53.76).

Bill Whiteley Sporting Scholar Matthew Ward was runner-up to Olympic silver-medallist Duncan Scott in the 200m individual medley (2:02.48) and involved in some highly-competitive backstroke racing against team-mates Jack Skerry and Cam Brooker over the weekend.

Skerry and Brooker, supported by US Foundation and Ivor Powell Scholarships respectively, placed second (54.13) and third (54.54) in the 100m backstroke, then Brooker (1:59.53), Ward (2:00.22) and Skerry (2:01.19) were second, third and fourth in the 200m backstroke before the 50m sprint saw Skerry (25.12), Ward (25.18) and Brooker (25.42) rank third to fifth.

The trio also competed in the end-of-meet relay races, with Skerry leading off for the victorious Aquatics GB Red quartet in the mixed 4×100 medley and Brooker doing likewise in the mixed 4x100m freestyle.

The University of Bath Student Performance Sport squad was also well represented in Scotland, with Civil Engineering student Niamh Ward placing fourth in the 200m backstroke (2:12.94) as well as seventh in both the 50m (29.17) and 100m (1:01.80) finals.

Sports Performance student Emily Johnson was fifth in the 1,500 freestyle (17:08.23) and sixth in the 800m (8:58.92), while there were eighth-placed finishes for Jess Podger in the 400m freestyle (4:19.66) and Christian Ryan in the 200m breaststroke (2:19.02).

Next up are the Aquatics GB Swimming Championships at the London Aquatics Centre from 14th-19th April, which will play a key role in selection for this summer’s European Championships and Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
