Resilience rewarded as netballer Emily Cox and hockey player Ross Telfer win latest Rengen Athlete of the Month Awards
Netballer Emily Cox and hockey player Ross Telfer have been rewarded for their resilience and dedication by being named as the latest winners of the Team Bath Rengen Athlete of the Month Award.
Architecture student Cox received the October award in recognition of the commitment and outstanding attitude she has shown while recovering from an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury she suffered during her first week of pre-season as a fresher in September 2024.

Anya Le Monnier, Student Netball Head Coach, said: “Emily is hands downs the most committed and diligent rehabber I have ever witnessed. As you can imagine it was incredibly hard for her to come into a new environment, with lots of excitement and hope, and then be faced with that news and the difficulties of integrating into a squad when not playing.
“However, Emily handled it all incredibly well. She always found a way to involve herself, add to the environment and cheer for her team-mates despite how hard it was for her to watch them doing what she wanted to be doing.
“Emily completed her rehab journey this October when she represented the University of Bath for the first time, contributing hugely to the 1st team’s narrow victory over Cardiff Met. She has also been selected into Team Bath’s NXT Gen Development group and made her National Premier 1 Debut. She is so deserving of this recognition and a very exciting athlete for the years to come.”

Sports Performance student Telfer, winning of the November award, was also praised for “overcoming setbacks and embracing challenges” by his coach, Ian Cordwell, after his tireless work and commitment to improvement with the University’s student hockey programme helped secure a trial for the Scotland Development Squad.
He took full advantage of that opportunity to earn selection for the squad and put himself in contention to represent his country at next summer’s EuroHockey U21 Championships in Czechia.
Both Telfer and Cox, who received their awards and a £50 voucher from Director of Sport Stephen Baddeley, are among the nearly 200 University of Bath student-athletes receiving bespoke support through the Student Performance Sport Breakthrough Programme during the 2025-26 academic year.
A second phase of applications is now open. Visit www.teambath.com/breakthrough-programme for more information.
Both the award and the Breakthrough Programme are supported by Team Bath partners Rengen, whose headquarters are based in Argyle Street in Bath city centre. They have extensive experience in the development of boutique purpose-built student accommodation, residential accommodation and commercial units.
