Eighteen-year-old Siobhan-Marie O’Connor became the first University of Bath based athlete to win a medal at the Glasgow 2014 Games when she struck silver in the 200m freestyle tonight. O’Connor, who trains at British Swimming’s National Training Centre at the University of Bath, came home second with a time of 1:55.82, just behind Australia’s Emma McKeon, who took gold in 1:55.57. Two athletes who train at the University of Bath are celebrating medals at the Trampoline Gymnastics World Championships in Bulgaria. Laura Gallagher joined forces with Emma Smith, Kat Driscoll and Bryony Page to win gold in the women’s trampoline team final in Sofia. Silver went to Canada with Belarus coming third. Eilidh Child qualified safely for tomorrow night’s 400m hurdles semi-finals, finishing third in her heat in the Olympic Stadium today.
