Swimming

Swim alongside Olympic stars

Team Bath’s swimming programme offers opportunities for all users, from learn-to-swim sessions and daily swim-fit sessions for the public to our performance set-up which is home to a British Swimming Performance Centre.

Some of Britain’s top swimmers base their training at the University of Bath including double Olympic Champion Tom Dean, who combines study and swimming. He was among nine swimmers selected to compete at the Tokyo Olympic Games which also included fellow gold-medallist Freya Anderson. They are coached by David McNulty and Jamie Main at the hugely-successful British Swimming Performance Centre, Bath, while World Champion Ben Proud is a member of the University of Bath Student Swimming Squad led by Mark Skimming. It is also used for training by Pentathlon GB, British Triathlon, Team Bath Artistic Swimming Club, performance swimming club Team Bath AS and a host of community clubs.

The Olympic-sized pool is also fully open to the public, with swim-fit sessions taking place on a daily basis – often alongside the Olympic swimmers. Click here for a monthly timetable of when the pool is accessible to members of the public.

We also have a hydro pool which can be booked by the public for shared or exclusive use, and is suitable for less confident swimmers.

Olympic Legacy Pool

In 2015 we completed the redevelopment of our 50m London 2012 Legacy swimming pool which features a new pool tank, modernised plant room and refurbished ventilation system.

There is also a £30,000 underwater camera system that allows elite swimmers to analyse their stroke and the world-class training provision was further enhanced in April 2019 with the installation of a retractable turning board system, meaning both 25m and 50m lanes are available for training purposes.

The pool, which is open to the public on a daily basis, has been described as “amazing” and worthy of “making a massive difference” by our top swimmers.

How to get involved

Access to the pool is available on a pay and play basis. A full breakdown of prices and the latest swim-fit timetable can be found by clicking here.

Learn to swim

The Team Bath Tribe Swim School provides lessons for children aged from 3 months to pre-school in our hugely popular parent and child classes, as well as our school-aged to 18 lessons in both our hydrotherapy and Olympic-sized 50m pool. We also offer adult improver lessons for those who wish to refine their swimming and strokes further.

Our small class sizes allow for children to get fantastic support and development opportunities in a safe and inclusive environment.

Parent and child classes run on Wednesday and Thursday mornings. School-aged lessons take place in our hydro pool from 4-7pm Monday to Friday and 9am-1pm on Saturdays. Lessons in the 50m pool are from 5.30-7pm on Monday and Wednesday and 9-11.15am on Saturdays, with adult swim sessions on Mondays from 7-8pm.
