Fed Cup at Team Bath Tennis
Some of the world’s leading tennis players were in action at the University of Bath from February 6-9 2019 as the Sports Training Village successfully hosted the Europe/Africa Zone Group I stage of the 2019 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas.
It was the first time that the international women’s team competition had been staged in the UK since 1993 and saw Great Britain come out on top after four unforgettable days of world-class tennis at a transformed Team Bath Tennis.
Joining the host nation in entertaining the sell-out crowds at the Sports Training Village were Croatia, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Serbia, Slovenia and Turkey.
The indoor courts were transformed into an atmospheric spectator arena with the addition of stands and fan zones. The show court, known as Centre Court, had 1,800 seats and a second court accommodated 300 spectators. The action was broadcast live by BT Sport.
Great Britain captain Anne Keothavong named three of the world’s top 100 players in her Fed Cup team – Johanna Konta, Heather Watson and Katie Boulter. They were joined by debutant Harriet Dart and Bristol’s Katie Swan, both of whom have played junior competitions at Team Bath Tennis.
